Navigated to College-Wide Capabilities.

In alignment with its mission to develop capable and trusted disciples of Jesus Christ, Ensign College has established a shared set of Institutional Learning Outcomes, referred to as its College-Wide Capabilities. These outcomes define the essential knowledge, skills, attributes, and dispositions that all students are expected to demonstrate, regardless of program of study. They unify the curriculum across the institution and guide course design, instruction, and assessment. Together, these Institutional Learning Outcomes ensure that every Ensign College graduate leaves not only with academic knowledge and career preparation, but with demonstrated competence and trusted character. These shared capabilities reflect the college’s commitment to preparing disciples of Jesus Christ who are equipped to lead, serve, and succeed in their professions and communities.

College-Wide Capabilities

Professionalism

Students demonstrate strong moral character (ethics) and personal responsibility (accountability) in their participation in organizations and communities. Professionalism includes integrity, reliability, respect, work ethic, and a commitment to excellence. Graduates honor commitments, meet expectations, manage time effectively, and conduct themselves in ways that build trust. At Ensign College, professionalism reflects both competence and Christlike character.

Teamwork and Leadership

Students create and sustain a culture of trust, vision, and continuous improvement that adds value to an organization or community through appropriate deference (emotional intelligence) and leadership (initiative). Graduates collaborate effectively, value diverse perspectives, and contribute positively to team dynamics. They demonstrate empathy, adaptability, and sound judgment while also taking initiative to guide projects, influence outcomes, and strengthen organizations.

Communication

Students demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively—verbally and in writing—to diverse audiences and in diverse modes and environments for mutual understanding and edification. Communication includes clarity, organization, professionalism, and audience awareness across interpersonal, group, and digital contexts. Students learn to articulate ideas persuasively, listen actively, provide constructive feedback, and use communication to foster understanding and unity.

Problem Solving

Students demonstrate the ability to understand a problem (critical thinking), locate and evaluate appropriate resources and evidence (informational literacy), and produce effective solutions (creative thinking). Graduates analyze complex situations, consider multiple perspectives, and apply sound reasoning to real-world challenges. They demonstrate initiative, adaptability, and ethical discernment in developing practical and innovative solutions.

Technical Skills

Students develop the field-specific skills required for success in their chosen profession, as well as the general technological competencies necessary to function in a modern world (computer and digital literacy). Each program ensures that graduates meet industry standards for entry-level employment while also developing transferable skills that support lifelong learning and professional growth.
