Within the Church Education System, Ensign College is the Applied Curriculum Provider. At Ensign College, learning is purposeful, immersive, and transformative. The Learning Signature defines how students learn, why that learning matters, and what students are able to demonstrate as a result of their educational journey. This distinctive approach ensures that students do more than acquire knowledge — they develop the capacity to apply it in real-world contexts, grow in personal character, and contribute meaningfully to their professions, communities, and discipleship.

The Learning Signature reflects Ensign College’s mission to develop capable and trusted disciples of Jesus Christ. It emphasizes immersive, applied learning environments where students act as agents of their own learning. Rather than memorizing content for exams, students engage deeply with problems, projects, and experiences that mirror workplace realities and community needs.

The Learning Signature is expressed in three core components:

Prepare

Students take personal responsibility for preparation that equips them to actively engage in learning experiences. Preparation includes studying assigned materials, reviewing foundational concepts, and arriving ready to practice, apply, and question. This readiness ensures classroom time is focused on meaningful interaction, integration, and skill development rather than passive content review.

Act

In immersive learning environments, students act on their preparation. These environments are designed to reflect real and relevant challenges — requiring inquiry, collaboration, problem-solving, and creation. Students practice discipline-specific skills and the College-Wide Capabilities, gaining experience that bridges academic knowledge and workplace performance.

Demonstrate

Students demonstrate mastery and internalization of learning outcomes through purposeful application. This demonstration — through projects, simulations, portfolios, or performance tasks — enables students to articulate what they know, what they can do, and the value of their contribution to employers, communities, and life beyond the classroom.

The Learning Signature intentionally supports deep learning — learning that is spiritually grounded, intellectually rigorous, and practically relevant. It prepares students to embrace future opportunities with confidence, resiliency, and faith. It also reinforces the integration of the College-Wide Capabilities (Professionalism, Teamwork and Leadership, Communication, Problem Solving, and Technical Skills), which are woven throughout programs and assessments.

By engaging in the Learning Signature, students not only gain technical expertise but also develop as thoughtful, adaptable, and purpose-driven individuals prepared to serve effectively in the workplace, the Church, and the wider world.
